James Boyd Miller

TROUP - Graveside services for James Boyd Miller, 90, Troup, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in Pinecrest Cemetery under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home.

Mr. Miller died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, in Chandler.

He was born June 16, 1920, in Gary to the late William Monroe and Bessie Turner Miller.

He married Ouida Jo Miller April 10, 1940, and moved to Troup in the late '40s.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Mifflin during World War II.

He was a driller and worked for Gipson Drilling Company, Kilgore. He was an over 50-years member of the Troup Fire Department, the American Legion Laney-Gambrell Post No. 418 and the Dixie Masonic Lodge No. 272, all of Troup. He attended the First Baptist Church, Troup.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Ouida Jo Miller on March 10, 2010.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Sidney and Brenda Miller of Chandler and James Christopher and Teresa Miller of Dallas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Jo and James Derrington of New Summerfield; two sisters and one brother-in-law, LaVerne Fielder, Houston, and Jimmie Ruth and Jay LaFitte, Shreveport, La.; six grandchildren, Karla Miller Cooper, Keith Miller, Stacey Brewer, Patrick Brewer, Johnny Brewer and Damien Miller; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Keith Miller, Daniel Cooper, Patrick Brewer, Damien Miller, Ronnie Jack Smiley and James Gore.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Chandler Nursing Center and Hospice of East Texas.
