Mr. Sikes, 62, of 121 Mathis Drive, died Sunday evening at a Rome hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Sikes was born in Floyd County, Aug. 9, 1930, son of Jewell Sikes Land and the late Jimmie David Sikes. He had been a longtime resident of Floyd County and was of the Baptist faith. He was a verteran of the Korean conflict, having served with the Navy.
He was a member of Cherokee Masonic Lodge No. 66 F&A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies and was a Shriner. He was a member of Coosa Chapter No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star, the Low Twelve Club and Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5, American Legion. He retired from Pet Bakery in 1992 as a truck driver.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Dell Sikes, to whom he was married May 29, 1956; a daughter, Joyce Thomas, Plainville; a son, Roger Burnley, Calhoun; his mother, Rome; two brothers, Fred Sikes and Bobby Sikes, both of Rome; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
