A funeral service for Wallace Richard Anderson, age 87, of Enid will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday September 18, 2008 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Susan Southall officiating. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery west of Cherokee with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Wally was born to Lawrence and Caroline (Adams) Anderson on February 16, 1921 in Greenleaf, Kansas and died on Monday September 15, 2008 in Enid.
Wally attended Greenleaf schools and went on to Kansas State to earn his Bachelor Degree of Engineering. He then served in the Army Air Corp 370 Fighter Group, 401 Fighter Squadron, 9th Air Force, and flew over 50 missions during his military career. He flew both the P-38 and the P-51. As a fighter pilot he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross along with several other air medals. Wally flew air cover during the Battle of the Bulge.
On August 17, 1956 he married Mary V. Belcher Jenlink in Cherokee. After the war Wally was employed by Alfalfa County Rural Electric then O.G.& E. as an Electrical Engineer until he retired. Wally was a member of the North Enid Lions Club, American Legion, and First United Methodist Church. After retirement he enjoyed carpentry, singing in the church choir, traveling and spending time with his grandkids.
Wally is survived by his wife Mary of the home; a son Richard Scott Anderson and his wife Amanda of Enid; two grandchildren, Ethan and Aaron Anderson of Enid; a brother Eugene Anderson of Riverside, CA.; and a sister Audrey Scott of Newton, KS.
He was preceded in death by a son Rex Jenlink, grandson Greg Jenlink, brother Rusty, and his parents.
