Louis Eldridge Howell, Sr. was born in Mansfield, LA in 1915 and passed away May 20, 2011. He lived to be 95 years old. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Monday, May 23, 2011 at Gorsulowsky Funeral Home Chapel in Vivian, LA. Burial will follow at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vivian. There will be a time of visitation from 6-8 PM on Sunday the 22nd at the funeral home.
He was a World War II veteran, and was stationed in the Pacific on the island of Guam. He enjoyed as a pastime the hobby of being a radio HAM, his call letters being W5DXB, and talking to the other HAMs all over the world. He was knowledgeable in electronics and was fascinated with the introduction of television, thus having the 1st television in Vivian โ David Ballard from Hosston, his friend having the second.
Louis moved to Vivian when he was nine years old, and lived with his sister Julia Doherty Manor and he and his nephew, David Doherty, being close as brothers. He worked at different jobs when he came home from the Army, and worked for Stanolind Refinery and then for Universal Oil Products for 26 years until he retired in 1980.
Louis is survived by his wife, Beverly Roan Howell, whom he was married to for 42 years. He is also survived by 3 children, Betty Crain and husband Floyd, Louis Howell Jr. and wife Stephanie, Gary Howell and wife Sue, his grandchildren, Cheryl Crain, Greg Howell, Matt Howell, Alicyn Franks and husband David, Conner Howell and Gary Lynn Howell Jr. and wife Jessica, great grandchildren, Branton and Landon Franks, Riley and Emilyn Howell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Tommy Howell, Lee Howell and Everette Howell, his sister Julia Manor and his parents Henry Beulah Howell and Sarah Alice Mathis Howell, and his first wife Marion Culpepper.
Louis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vivian where he loved going and spent many years as its oldest member. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and special friend Greg LaCour. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of the First Baptist Church of Vivian. So much love was given to my husband and our dad by his care-givers at the Vivian Healthcare Center and the North Caddo Memorial Hospital. Louis lived a long life and saw many changes in this world. Now he is at peace with his Heavenly Father. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
