"Died, December 3d, 1883, of old age at his home in Lincoln County, Tenn., Mr. Samuel Gleghorn, in the 89th year of his age. The deceased was a venerable man. It is not thought that he ever was sick. He raised and cultivated with his own hands seventy eight crops consecutively. ... He was born on Rocky Creek, Chester, S.C., where he lived until he was about thirty. ... There he married Mary Crawford and emigrated to Tennessee about sixty years ago, casting in his lot with Dr. Bryson and the Prosperity congregation. Thence he moved to Morton's Creek and was ordained an elder in the Zion congregation (an organization that was disbanded about thirty years ago because most of the membership migrated West) when he connected with the Bethel congregation."
