Barbara A. Bell, 78, of Sycamore, Ill., and Apache Junction, Ariz., died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at her home.
Born April 14, 1932, in Sycamore, the daughter of Lloyd F. and Thirza (Westergren) Powell, she married James E. Bell on Oct. 6, 1951, in Sycamore.
Barbara worked at Duplex Products in Sycamore for 12 years. She also worked at Northern Illinois University in the audio visual department for 12 years. Then, she and her husband managed various RV Resorts and campgrounds in the Southwest until their retirement.
Barbara was baptized, confirmed and married at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore. She was a prolific writer – poems, music, plays and novels are many of her accomplishments. She was an inspired artist who loved to paint and draw with charcoal. Barbara especially enjoyed the West and all of the history of the native American Indians.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim Bell of Sycamore; her children, David M. (Terry) Bell and Jim E. (Susie) Bell Jr. all of Sycamore, Kathy A. Bell-Smith of Rockford and Dennis J. (Lorelei) Bell of DeKalb; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Shirley) Powell of Sycamore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Marie Schmidt, Myrtle Sundquist and Norma Listy.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the local family-owned and -operated Butala Funeral Home and Crematory of Sycamore, with Judy Bergeson, diaconal minister officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Butala Funeral Home.
