Harry N. Elwell
Shaftsbury - The funeral of Harry N. Elwell was held Monday afternoon at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington. The Rev. Alfred Scott, North Bennington Baptist Church pastor, officated and also gave the committal prayers at South Shaftsbury Cemetery, where burial took place.
Bearers were Carroll Cross, Trenor Elwell, David Rowland, Francis Lauzon, Robert Sears and Farnham Southwick.
As Mr. Elwell was a World War I veteran, military honors were accorded him. Color bearers were Clarence Cross, past Legion commander, and present Cmdr. Winston Lother, Color guards were Edward Rood and Hugh Clark, both past commanders. The flag was folded by Mr. Rood and Mr. Cross and presented to Ivan Elwell, brother, by past Cmdr. Cross, through the American Legion. Buglers were Faye Hamilton and John Goyette of Bennington High School.
Calling at the funeral home Sunday night and holding their service were Dominick Yarnal, exalted ruler of the Elks, and other officers; the auxillary of World War I Barracks, members of World War I Barracks, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars members.
