James "Jim" Curtis Akins, 75, Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at 10:35 a.m. in Cox South following a short illness. James was born in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area. He was a retired paint contractor and member and trustee of the Faith Assembly of God Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. James C. Akins and Shirley Ann Williams were united in marriage on March 14, 1963. Together they were privileged to share 41 years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; three sons and families, David Akins of Kansas City, Daniel Akins and children, Jon, Chris, Amber and Devin of Springfield, and Rick and wife Jill Akins and children Natalie, Emily and Sean of Springfield; one daughter, Cindy McKee and son, Cory, his wife, Angel and child, Maggie; two sisters, Golden and husband Leo Lane of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Bonnie Robidoux of Glendale, Ariz. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, in Faith Assembly of God Church, 3001 W. Division, Springfield, with Revs. Jerry Snavely and John Hyde officiating with interment following in Clear Creek Cemetery with military rites provided by the Bravo Military Honors Team, Springfield. All arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today in the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
