Mamie Ethel Ament, age 86, formerly of Wapello, Iowa, died Thursday evening, January 21, 1999 at the Meadow Lawn Nursing Center at Davenport, Iowa. The daughter of William Freeman and Elizabeth Welch Marshall, she as [sic] born April 7, 1912 at Cairo, Iowa. She married Ray Ament on August 31, 1935 at Wapello. He died July 29, 1974.
She was a graduate of Wapello High School in 1930. She had worked for a time at the Ordinance Plant at Burlington. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. Mamie enjoyed dancing, working, and visiting with friends.
Survivors include two daughters, a son, eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; a daughter, June; a brother; two sisters; and two grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date this spring. Some family and friends are gathering briefly at 3:00 p.m. Saturday for a viewing opportunity at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello.
Burial will take place Monday, January 24, 1999 at the Columbus City Cemetery.
