Elizabeth was born in CT to Elizabeth Montgomery and George Young. When Elizabeth was 3, her family and other CT families moved to Hiram, Ohio. Five years later Elizabeth's mother died. When she was 16 her father died.
Some months later, on 1 April 1824 Elizabeth married Samuel Bates, a farmer in Portage.
They had the following children:
1. Erastus 1826-1895 + Nancy A 1828-1862 + Catherine Vaughan 1839-1911
2. George 1828 - not sure he's Samuel's son, but he's buried in same area
3. Samuel Sterling 1836-1909 + Julia Cramer 1839-1915
4. Lydia 1842-1845
In 1845, 38 year old Elizabeth, her husband, and their youngest child, Lydia, died. The cause of their deaths is not yet known.
