He was born in Raton and was preceded in death by his parents, Elias Tapia and Cecilia G. Salazar Tapia.
Gary is survived by sisters Robin Tapia and Donna Tapia-Twomeny, both of Tuscon, Ariz., Denise Tapia and Anthony Flores of Amarillo, Texas, and Elisha Rowe of Lubbock, Texas. Other survivors include brothers-in-law Clyde E. Turpin, Damian P. Twomey, Trey Rowe; sister-in-law Gini Flores, stepmother Dolores Tapia and several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gary experienced many trials and tribulations in life, but didn't give up his faith. He spent the last several years of his life deeply involved in Christian living and was ready to leave his earthly surroundings and move on to his permanent home in heaven.
A gathering and celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m. in Raton the Fairview Presbyterian Cemetery on East 10th Street.
