Born in Skällvik parish,Söderköping. The eldest of 12 children of Johan Valfrid Hellström & Matilda Fredrika Scherman Skärman. Husband to Maria Josephine Jansson, they married on Dec 23, 1905 in RI. They had no children. Immigrated to the US August 25, 1893. Occupation was house painter,member of the Swedish Working Mens Ass
& Painters Union. Cause of death due to renal failure.

"Providence, 28th March 1923
Dear Ani,
I have to write you (Eder = very formal, not first name basis) a few
lines to let you know
how we are these days. I am well but I have just been stricken by a great sorrow in that little Edvin is dead. He died Sunday night and was buried today, it is the most gruesome thing I have lived through because Edwin had not been ill since he left home (Sweden).
This happened at work, he had one of those fits he used to get. It came upon him right there when he was working. He stood on the floor when he fell and hit the back of his head in a sharp corner so badly it caused a big hole in the head.We took him to the hospital and then he had three more fits there which knocked him out.
It happened Thursday afternoon, but on Friday and Saturday he was a little better. Then on Sunday he became worse, it finally went to his brain so he kicked
back and forth in the afternoon, and in the evening at 8:15 PM it was over. I was standing
at his bed when he died and he lay so quiet and calm, but can you at all understand how
I am feeling? I am feeling so lonely, but I will have to cope.We could not find any address to you all, otherwise we would have sent you a telegram spelling = telligram), but then we found it. Edvin had a fine funeral with so many big and beautiful flowers. It turns out that was
the last time Elvina saw Edvin, who could have
imagined that, we know so little about our time here.
Mrs. Howland came to the funeral ceromony and they sent flowers too. Jennie (?) and August live in the city now, they have bought a house in town, she sends her greetings
from all acquaintances. Well, now I don´t know much more to write about this time so I´ll end for tonight. I will go to my employment again on Monday so when Ani (You) write, please also write me Elvina´s address, I don´t know it. I will send you Svea (Emigrants´
newspaper) next week so that you can read about the funeral. I´m finishing this letter by sending a thousand dear greetings from me and from Selma and Clason" (?)
