Bessie was born on January 24, 1877 in Suwannee, Florida to James Thomas Lowe Jr and Wincy Williams of Anson, North Carolina. Bessie's siblings are James who married Martha Sharpe; Giles P who married Mattie Decker; Charles Thomas who married Mary Louisa Buckles; Hattie who married W B Stephens; Robert who married Linnie E Carmichael and Mary.

On August 9, 1893 Bessie married Edward Jelks Stephens in Columbia County, Florida and they had the following children: Harvey L who married Kate Skeen; Winnie Pearl who married Roy Garland Parnell; Hattie; Jesse; Eugene; Edward Jr who married Mae Foster and Bessie.

Bessie died on Mar 12, 1926 and is buried with her husband at the Pine Grove Methodist Church Cemetary in Suwannee County, Florida. (Bio by TRH)
