Andrew Boehnlein Chilton Times January 24, 1925
Word reached this city Saturday evening of the death of Andrew Boehnlein, which occurred that day at St. Elizabeth's hospital, Appleton, following an operation for gall stones. Mr. Boehnlein left here on Thursday afternoon for Appleton to enter the hospital and on Friday morning submitted to the operation but he failed to show improvement and on Saturday passed away. He had been ill about three weeks previous to the operation but was able to be up and around. His untimely death was a severe shock to his many relatives and friends who hardly realized the seriousness of his condition. The body was brought back here on Sunday and lay in state at his home on Brooklyn Street until Tuesday morning when the funeral services were held form St. Mary's church. Rev. Fr. L. N. Thelen officiating with interment in St. Mary's cemetery. The Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, of which he was a member, attended the funeral in a body.
Andrew Boehnlein, son of Mrs. Joseph Boehnlein, was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 22, 1854, and came to this county with his parents while an infant. His parents settled on the farm in the town of Brothertown that was afterward the homestead of the deceased and which is now owned by Joseph Boehnlein, a son. He grew to young manhood on this farm and on April 13, 1880, was united in marriage to Miss Mary Meyer at Charlesburg, taking up residence on the homestead farm of his father. In 1884 he moved to Marshfield and spent four years on a farm in that vicinity, returning here in 1888 to his old homestead. He operated this farm until 1912 when he disposed of it to his son, Joseph, and came to this city to make his home, erecting a residence on Brooklyn Street in which he resided up to the time of his death.
Mr. Boehnlein was the father of five children, two sons, John of Milwaukee and Joseph of the town of Brothertown, three daughters, Mrs. Joseph Dreifuerst and Mrs. Frank Leon of St. Cloud and Mrs. Otto Jodar of New Holstein. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Jos. Boehnlein, Sr., aged 95 years, four brothers, Simon of New Holstein, Michael and Nicholas of Charlesburg and Joseph of Marytown, two sisters, Mrs. Math. Schmitz of Marytown and Sister Nelania of St. Mary's school of Fond du Lac.
For the past seven years Mr. Boehnlein was watchman and general utility man for the Carnation Milk Products Company, which position he held with credit to himself and to the satisfaction of the company. He had many friends in this section of the county to whom the news of his death will bring sorrow. His happy disposition and kindness of heart made him the central figure of any group he might enter. He was beloved by his family and respected by everybody who knew him.
