Delma Ann Brown was born in Red Boiling Springs, in Macon County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Likurgess "Kirt" Brown and the late Bessie (Austin) Brown.
While growing up she helped her family by being a sharecropper in the hills of Tennessee.

In her late twenties Delma moved from Tennessee to Michigan. She married Edward Bonnell on September 1, 1950 in Toledo. She was a homemaker and took the responsibility of raising the couple's five children. The family moved to Luna Pier in 1965.

Delma was quite the character. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and she enjoyed playing tricks on others. Delma was known to all the children in the neighborhood as granny.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, baking. She was the ultimate caretaker – enjoyed giving and serving others. Delma loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She often said, that she "loved them more than her life itself". She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary Post 193 in Luna Pier.
