Walter C. Marsh Sr. of Vineland passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Cape May Convalescent Center in Cape May Court House. He was 86.

Walter was born in Ocean City and was the second son of the late William H. and Edith Mae (Gilmore) Marsh.

He resided in Weymouth and graduated from Egg Harbor High School.

Mr. Marsh served in the U.S. Navy for 28 years. During that time he saw action in the Pacific Theatre in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, eventually retiring in 1973 as a Senior Chief Gunner's Mate.

He lived in Vineland on and off during his Navy career, finally staying in Vineland after his retirement. He then taught in the Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps. (ROTC) at Rancocas Valley High School in Mount Holly for 20 years.

Walter was also a skilled carpenter and developed a career in refrigeration repair. He worked many years in funeral homes, the most recent of which was Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home of Vineland.

He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge of Vineland and Trinity Episcopal Church of Vineland.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Anne G. (Sprague) Marsh of Vineland; four sons, Walter C. Marsh Jr. (Janet) of Chicago Ill., Dr. T. Donald Marsh (Ginger) of Chesterfield, Va., R. Scott Marsh (Chermaine) of Pass Christian, Miss., and James J. Marsh (Annette) of White House Station, N.J.; He also is survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Roland Marsh (Vivian) of Belcoville.
