Furman was named for his grandfather, Furman Housel, and the John was from his grandfather John Beat. Furman and Mabelle(Mabel) both worked for Chase Gardens Nursery for many years and Furman also worked as a groundsman for the University of Oregon, Eugene. Furman died of Stomache Cancer and it is believed that he carried the Brac 1 cancer gene which was inherited by my father, Floyd beat and Furman's daughter, Sara Elizabeth(Beth) Beat McLennan.
