John Baird, a native of Coleraine, County Londonderry, Ireland was the husband of Elizabeth Warden. In 1820, they immigrated with their sons through Charlestown and settled in the bounds of Hopewell in Chester County, South Carolina. On the 31st of October 1829, John petitioned for American citizenship, along with his wife and sons; stating his age to be 55 years.

By the 1840 U.S. Census, John has emigrated west to the area around Tipton County, Tennessee.
