Thomas Wilson McCleary was born in Indiana. His parents were William H. McCleary (of Indiana) and Jane C. Kirkpatrick (of South Carolina). He met Atta Bell, also of Indiana, and married her November 16, 1893. They had two children, a daughter Verda, and a son Eugene. Thomas worked a variety of jobs according to census records, including carpenter; postmaster; boilmaker for a railroad; and engineer for an ice company. The family moved west to Colorado sometime between 1912 and 1920. In the 1930 census, Thomas was a widower, his wife Atta having died in January of that year. A few months after the census was taken, Verda, his daughter, married Kenneth Donald Lawrie on September 29, 1930. Thomas passed away in 1941.
