Betty Anne Brown Phillips, an 18-year resident of Carmichael, California, died on August 10, 2010, surrounded by her family. Known as B.A., she was born May 23, 1921, in Donna, Texas, where her family had a dairy farm. At 13 she moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she met her future husband, General Samuel C. Phillips, whose successful military and industrial career took them all over the world. At Sam's side over the years B.A. was First Lady of the Apollo Man on the Moon Project (Sam was Director of the Apollo Program, NASA, 1964-1970), National Security Agency (Sam was Director of NSA from 1972-1973), and the Air Force Systems Command (he was Commander 1973-1976). She enjoyed dancing to the music of the big bands, mahjong, gardening, antiquing, and family activities. Betty Anne loved to travel and explored Europe, South America and Asia with her family. She attended College of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where she was a drama major, later sharing her passion for the arts with her daughters and introducing them to museums and theaters around the world. An avid geneologist, B.A. was a founding member of the Point Vicente Chapter of the DAR in Palos Verdes, California, and has generously given to education, arts, and sciences with a special interest in the Aerospace Museum of California. Betty Anne is survived by her three daughters, Dana McMenamin of Sacramento, Janie Phillips of Daytona Beach, and Kathleen Esposito of Princeton. She had five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Service will be private. Interment at the Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
