Sylvester (ather was Behney, misspelled on stone) was born to Elizabeth "Eliza" Eckler in Pine Grove, Schuylkill Co.PA. He was raised by grandparents, Henry & Margaret Keiser Eckler and aunts & uncles. By 1880, he would locate to South Bend, IN where several aunts & uncles had settled and was later joined by younger half-brothers, John Henry Miller, Mahlon Michael and Andrew Wilson Miller and sister Elizabeth "Lizzie" Miller House.

Sylvester married Lavinia (Lovinia) Stroup January 12, 1881, in Niles, Berrien Co. MI. They had no children. In the 1900 Census, they were living in Buchanan, Berrien Co. MI - brother Andrew Wilson Miller boarding with them. The couple then moved to South Bend till their passing. After Sylvester's death in 1917, Lovinia married William Halliday on August 3, 1920, in South Bend. She passed away July 19, 1928, in South Bend. Sylvester's mother, Eliza Eckler Miller is buried near his half brother, Andrew Wilson Miller in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, MI. Submitted by Cousin - Anita (Eckler/Frucci)Rodgers
