Eugene B. Arnold, 80, of Decatur, a former school bus driver, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Adams County Memorial Hospital.
The Adams County native retired in 1984 from Adams Central School in maintenance after 28 years of service and was also a Washington Township farmer. He was an active member of Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, where he served on several boards and was Sunday school superintendent. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Thelma R.; daughters Judy Clark of Elkhart and Connie Shady and Rhonda Tom, both of Decatur; a son, Phil of Monroe; his stepmother, Lela Arnold of Decatur; brothers Stanley of Decatur, Don of Milford, Bill of Stroh and Homer Jr. of Berne; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, Decatur, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. today at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be at Pleasant Dale Cemetery. Memorials are to the church building fund or the Adams County Cancer Society.

EUGENE B. ARNOLD, 80, died Wednesday at Adams County Memorial Hospital, Decatur. Born in Adams County, he retired in 1984 from the maintenance department of Adams Central Schools after 28 years and had also driven a school bus. Eugene B. Arnold, 80, Decatur, died at 4:43 p.m. Wednesday in Adams County Memorial Hospital after having been ill for a year.
He was born on August 17, 1921 in Adams County to Homer and Lula Byerly-Arnold and married Thelma R. Tinkham on December 21, 1942; she survives.
He retired in 1984 after 28 years as a maintenance worker for Adams Central Schools and was also a bus driver at AC. He was a farmer and a longtime member of Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, serving on many boards and was a former Sunday School superintendent. He also had been the president of Adams Central's Parent Teacher Organization. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe.
Other survivors are a son, Phil Arnold of Monroe; three daughters, Mrs. Rodney (Judy) Clark of Elkhart and Mrs. Jeff (Connie) Shady and Mrs. Larry (Rhonda) Tom, both of Decatur; four brothers, Stanley Arnold of Decatur; Don Arnold of Milford; Bill Arnold of Stroh and Homer Arnold Jr. of Berne, the step- mother, Lela Arnold; 13 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
A grandson is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren rural Decatur with burial in the church cemetery.
Visiting hours are 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church building fund or the Adams County chapter of the American Cancer Society.
