Vallie was the daughter of John and Mary Shomo Holsinger, and the step-daughter of Minnie Mason Holsinger. She was the widow of Edward Carroll Bauer, who died in 1933. She was survived by daughters Mary Smith Simpson and Margaret Naylor, several grandchildren and a half-sister Blanche Krickbaum.
