He resided in Pacific County, Washington prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 9, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Married.

B-24J #44-40690 took off from Tacloban, Leyte Island, Philippines for a bombing mission over Anguar Island, Palau. They crashed and burned on Samar Island, Philippines shortly after takeoff for an unknown reason.

Cosmo was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
