Edward's remains were recovered and identified in 2009. He is now interred in the Lakeside Cemetery, Erie, Pennsylvania.

Husband of Winifred E. French who resided in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Edward served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24D #42-40886, 64th Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 11, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a asbestos and insulation worker and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #42-40886 took off, with a crew of 11, from 7 Mile Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a night radar mission looking for Japanese shipping in the Bismarck Sea off of Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea.

They were last contacted by radio and were not seen nor heard from again. The entire crew was lost.

In 1982 this B-24 was found. They had crashed near Mount Eiyawaiy and Engati in Morobe Province during the war.

Edward was first declared "Missing In Action" and after his remains were recovered his status was changed to "Killed In Action".

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
