Gerald served as a Private First Class, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York and was a member of the New York National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on October 15, 1940, prior to the war, from Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Hospital Attendant and also as Single, without dependents.

Gerald died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident during the war.
