Staff Sergeant Frank R. "Robert" Costello, born 7 Dec 1925, was the son of Frank B and Margaret (Quigley) Costello of Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio.
In the 1930 census 4-year-old Frank is living with his parents and maternal grandparents Michael and Julia Quigley at 262 E Lucius Ave., in Youngstown. His father is a cost clerk at a fireproofing company. His grandfather is a night watchman at a department store.
In the 1940 census 14-year-old Robert is living with his parents, widowed grandfather Michael Quigley 72, and brother Raymond 6, at 1618 Overland Ave., in Youngstown. His father is a receiving clerk at a furniture factory.
On his Dec 1943 draft registration Robert is still living at 1618 Overland. He works for General Fireproofing.
The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for Ohio show Costello, Frank R, S/Sgt from Mahoning County as killed in action 24 Mar 1945. Robert was a nose gunner on a B-24 42-50749 piloted by 1st Lt James W Brown, shot down over Wesel, Kreis Wesel, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
