Minnie Haywood was born 1857 in Raleigh, Wake County, NC, the eldest of 2 known children (1 girl/1 boy) born to Francis Philomen Haywood and his 2nd wife, Martha Williams Joyner, widow of Col. Archibald Alexander Austin.

Her father was married first to Ann C. Ferrall/Ferrall who died before 1856, and by her had one son, Sherwood Haywood (1843-1851), who is buried near his father in Old City Cemetery, Raleigh.

Her mother, daughter of Col. Andrew Joyner of Halifax County, was married first to Col. Archibald Alexander Austin of Halifax County, and by him had 3 daughters before his death in 1848 -- Sarah "Sallie" Bridgeman Austin (1846), Temperance Williams Austin (1844-1869), and Elizabeth "Bettie" Austin (1844-1921).

Her parents married September 3, 1856, with Martha bringing her 3 daughters into the household. Soon thereafter, her parents gave birth to Minnie, followed by her brother, Francis Philomen Haywood, Jr. (1869-1939).

Minnie was 22 years old on May 23, 1879 when she married Leroy G. Bagley, Deputy Clerk of Superior Court in Raleigh and son of Col. William Holmes Bagley of Perquimanns Co, NC. Leroy died in 1888, and no children are known to have been born to the marriage.

Minnie never remarried. She lived for a while in Raleigh with her widowed half-sister, Bettie Austin Badger (widow of Maj. Richard Cogdell Badger, CSA). Part of this household included her half-niece, Patti Williams Gee, daughter of her half-sister, Temperance Williams Austin and her husband, Dr. Charles James Gee. Minnie later removed to Washington DC (ca. 1920) where she was secured a position in one of the government agencies.

Minnie Haywood Bagley died June 12, 1934, just a few days shy of her 77th birthday. She is buried in the Haywood plot with her brother who never married, and died 1939; and her half-niece, Pattie Williams Gee, who had also died in 1934, just a few months before Minnie.
