First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Forces-561st Bomber Squadron, , Heavy Service # O-824307. He entered the Service from Illinois.


1Lt Wettersten flew as co-pilot of B-17 Flying Fortress with the 561 BS/388 BG. He was killed on 6 February 1945 during assembly for a mission to Chemnitz when his aircraft B-17 #43-37806, called 'Miss Fortune', collided with another bomber. Wettersten was killed when his chute failed to open.
