The 389th BG along with other groups of the 2nd Bomb Division participated on a mission to destroy the marshaling yards near Hamm Germany on April 22nd 1944. According to the " Mighty Eighth War Diary" on that mission night time return leg Luftwaffe fighters infiltrated the formations and attacked over England and in some cases even bombing the 389th bases. One 389th bomber crash landed at Hethel and destroyed a signals hut killing the men inside but with no casualties to the crew. Another B24 was shot down at Cantley England no other information provided. I however find 2 crews on USAAF personnel with KIA on this date. 42-94934 and 42-109915 both crews from the 565th bomb squadron.
