"On 05 Jan 44 mission #96 to Kiel, Germany in B-17G #42-31441 (No name) (360BS) PU-E. Take off was made in semi-darkness with very poor visibility. Aldis lamps and flares were used in an attempt to identify aircraft. #42-31441, a brand new B-17G on her first mission, collided with 379th BG)(H) B-17 #42-37887 during the take off climb to the Group formation area. All ten men in the 303rd B-17 and 8 men in the 379th B-17 died. The 303rd BG(H) B-17 crashed near Catworth, England."
