US Congressman. Born in Rockford, Illinois, he studied agriculture and horticulture in Austria, France, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Italy and Great Britain, then established a seed business in Rockford, Illinois. In 1927, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventieth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until his death. He died at age 64 on his estate in Rockford, Illinois.
