Henry graduated from Springdale High School in 1935, where he was an honor student and from North Central College, Naperville, Illinois in 1939. He received his commisson and wings at Miami, Florida in 1941 after training at Great Lakes, Illinois and Pensacola, Florida.
USNR Lt. H. C. Clem was a pilot in VF-10 "Grim Reapers" Navy fighter sqaudron on the USS Enterprise in 1944. He was shot down June 19, 1944 (14:20-18.06) during the Battle of the Philipine Sea (Marianas Turkey Shoot) while on a rescue mission. He is missing in action and believed to be dead. The Air Medal and Gold Star was awarded to him for unusal bravery in action.
