John registered for the draft on his 18th birthday, 7 Feb 1944, in Perham. He was 5’7”, weighed 155 lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair. John’s brother Richard, as the oldest son and running the family farm, would have been exempt from the draft.
John was inducted at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on 11 May 1944. He’d had two years of high school and was single without dependents. His occupation was listed under farm hands, general farms.
On 1 Feb 1945, the command Post of the 275th Infantry Regiment was at Guebenhouse in northeastern France. The Command Post of the 1st Battalion was in Nousseviller, the 2nd Battalion in Hundling, and the 3rd Battalion in Deibling. After careful planning, division G-3 was notified that on 4 February that Lixing and Grosbliederstroff would be the objectives of a daylight raid scheduled for the morning of the 6th. Lixing was 3 miles north northeast of their forwardmost position at Nousseviller and Grosbliederstroff was 4 miles northeast on the Saar River.
The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county show Senske, John P, 37594734, Pfc from Otter Tail County, Minnesota as killed in action on 6 Feb 1945 so we can assume he was killed in the assaults on either Lixing or Grosbliederstroff.
