Clyde is the son of William Emmett and Zula Bell (Campbell) Skinner. He was adopted in 1947 by David and Allie (Davenport) Carter - although he had his name legally changed to Carter in 1939.
Clyde married Allie I. Lee, June 1, 1939 in Carmel, IN. They have 5 children: Jill, Gordon, Steve, Randy, and Ken.
Clyde was a member and a Deacon of the Oakford Separate Baptist Church. He sold 67 acres of land to help build the church. Clyde, also, made the church steeple.
Clyde held many jobs over his life-time, including that of a farmer, factory worker, welder, vending machine serviceman, artist (making up computer portraits at fairs), and working as a maintance repairman at various car dealerships.
Clyde was enlisted in the US Navy from June 1943 - Nov. 1945. He was a Gunners Mate 3C; Armed Guard Unit on Liberty Ships - carrying cargo.
Clyde passed away from heart problems.
