John Grubbs enlisted Co I 19th GA Volunteer Infantry, where he stayed until captured at Cold Harbor, injured in a train collision en route to Elmira Prison. He was paroled at Point Lookout, MD 1864. Co I was known as Villa Rica Gold Diggers. His pension application is listed in GA. Virtual Vault and his war record is also listed with the muster roll of the 19th GA Co I Villa Rica Gold Diggers, Carroll County.

John married Cassindy Ballard.
