Mary "Alma" Downs, 67, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 21, 2009. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 24 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. David Carroll officiating. Burial was in Thomas Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Downs was born May 21, 1941, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Allen Burgess and Vesta Pauline Bolin.
She was employed at the Bean Pot and had been the owner of Alma's Drive-in for several years prior. She was also a member of Gospel Baptist Tabernacle. She liked to quilt and loved bluegrass gospel music.
Survivors include her husband, Rubell Downs of Crossville; brothers, Roy Vanwinkle, Phillip Vanwinkle and Charles Vanwinkle, all of Crossville, William Vanwinkle of Sparta, Roger Burgess, Marvin Burgess, Doyle Burgess, Delmer Burgess, Willis Burgess and Astor Burgess, all of Crossville; and sisters, Lola Breeding, Thelma Bolles and Stella Davis, all of Crossville, Marie Wyatt of Gainesboro, Joyce Craft of Elyria, OH, Dollie Cordell, Mamie Cole, Darlene Bell, Frances Burgess of Crossville and Treva McKinney of Springfield, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers were Jeff Downs, Daniel Bolles, Marty Pryor, Avery Walker, Jonathan Vanwinkle and Michael Phillips.
Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
