Martha L. Beal, of Dixon, was born on November 11, 1934, at St. Elizabeth, a daughter of James Alton and Laura Vivian (Humphrey) McKee, and departed this life at 11:35 a.m., Sunday morning, November 2, 2014, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center, Dixon. Martha had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 79 years, 11 months, and 21 days.

Mrs. Beal was united in marriage on May 15, 1950, in Miller County, to Edgar Elwood Beal, and to this union, four children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 27, 2003; her parents; one brother, Lawrence McKee; and one half-sister, Goldie Sullivan.

Martha had attended church regularly through her life as long as her health permitted. Through the years she had been a certified nurses-assistant in various nursing facilities in Rolla; had worked for L. B. Manufacturing, Iberia; and had provided in-home health care prior to her retirement. Martha enjoyed crossword puzzles, quilting, and a good cup of coffee. She was a devoted housewife and homemaker, always diligent in providing for the needs of her family and enjoyed interacting with them.

Those left to mourn the passing of Martha include: Her children, Joyce (Donnie) Thomas, and Jude (Danny) Crossland, all of Dixon; Lawrence “Woody” (Kelly) Beal, Jefferson City; and Terresa (Spencer) Smith, Rockport, Illinois; four grandchildren, Amanda (Monty) Cornelison, Lebanon; Shawnee (Praveen) Pinto, Austin, Texas; Caleb (Kristen) Smith and Trystin Smith, all of Rockport, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Logan Cornelison, Ryan Pinto, Katelyn Pinto, Emma Smith, and Aliana Smith; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Beal at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2014, in the First Assembly of God Church, Dixon, with Rev. Manuel Seaton, pastor of Campground Christian Church, Van Cleve, officiating.

Interment was in the Freedom Cemetery, Dixon, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Freedom Cemetery with envelopes at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
