New York Times: Brookville, Long Island, 28 Sept. 1945 - Ashbel Hinman Barney, a member of an old New York family and a summer resident of this community for 20 years, died of a heart attack this morning in his French Chateau on Wolver Hollow Rd. His age was 69. For many years before his retirement he was in charge of the Barney Estate Company, holdings of his family. Mr. Barney was a graduate from Yale University in 1898, and was a veteran of the First World War. He was a member of the Knickerbocker Club, where he made his home in the winters. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Charles Tracy Barney; a brother, James W., and a sister, Mrs. Cortlandt T. Barnes, all of New York.
