Mary D. (Dollie) "Smith" Shaffer was born Oct. 15, 1805 in South Carolina, the daughter of Mark & Sarah "Cannon" Smith. She married John M. Shaffer Feb. 16, 1823 in Perry County, Alabama. John M. & Dollie had nine proven children, their names were
Mary Ann Hardy 1824-1890,
Kesiah Wherry 1827-1903,
Sarah "Sallie" Holland 1829 - ?,
Albert L. Shaffer 1832-1915,
Eli M. Shaffer 1834-1905,
Mary Elizabeth Holland 1836-1868,
Arrena McBride Miller 1838,
John Thomas Shaffer 1841-1898,
Rosa Caroline Miller Clegg 1844-1926.

Dollie has no marked grave, except for a large pile of rocks, just like her husbands grave next to her's. John M. Shaffer had two marker's, but over the year's, and bad weather they are almost gone. I placed a large cross, with his name, dates of birth, & death. And wrote a brief biograhy of his life, and how he and Dollie moved from Alabama to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi before 1840. It was on this cross, back in 2009.
