Sanford F. Somerville, 57, of 562 6th St., became Parkersburg's second highway fatality of 1946 when he succumbed to injuries received when he was struck by a taxi Monday night.

The victim died yesterday at 6 a.m. in the Camden-Clark Memorial hospital, where he was taken following the accident on New Year's eve and died a a result of his injuries, according to Dr. Robert Fosnaugh, resident physician.

He had been in serious condition at the hospital since the night of the accident, when a Black and White taxi struck him on 5th St., near Green St., driven by Lucien Kerr, 27, of 2109 10th Av., South Parkersburg, according to investigating city police.

An electrician by trade, Mr. Somerville was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Somerville and is survived by the following:

His wife, Mrs. Elaine Somerville; two sons, Adrian Somerville in the Armed Forces and Clair Eugene Somerville; two brothers, Alfred E. and Thomas H. Somerville, both of Parkersburg; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Currey of Belpre, Mrs. Anna Archer and Mrs. Rae Hickman, both of Parkersburg. Also surviving are an aunt an uncle and two grandchildren.

He was better known as "Sank" and was removed to the Leavitt funeral home, where he will remain until funeral services are held there Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Gill I. Wilson will officiate and burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
