Allan VanBuren Cook, 91, of 36 Day Street, Pittsfield, died Monday evening, July 12, 2010 at his home.

Born in Pittsfield on February 23, 1919, the son of Andrew and May C. Bain Cook, he was educated in Pittsfield schools. He served as a Sgt. in the Army from 1942 to 1945.

Mr. Cook had been employed as a sanitation engineer with the City of Pittsfield for twenty years, retiring in the 1970s.

He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, the former Theresa Jamross, whom he married on June 23, 1995.

His first wife, the former Leona Brown, died in 1991.

Besides his wife, Mr. Cook is survived by a daughter, Linda Reid, of Pittsfield; a son, Allan R. Cook, and his wife, Angela, of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Darlene Collins and her husband, John, of Cheshire; two stepsons, Mitchell Brown and his wife, Mary Grace, of Pittsfield, and Franklin Brown and his companion, Barbara Mills, of Hinsdale; as well as fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a grand dog, Rosie.

He was predeceased by six sisters.

Funeral Services for Allan VanBuren Cook will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., in St. Mark's Church celebrated by Rev. John C. Salatino, Pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will precede the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME.
