Norma Marceline (Baker) Agler, 86, of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away on December 29, 2012, at Cape Coral Hospital. She was born in Decatur to the late Franklin O. and Opal (Butcher) Baker on December 4, 1926. Norma married her high school sweetheart, Noel L. Agler on September 26, 1948, after he had completed his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Norma grew up in Decatur and was a member of Decatur Evangelical United Brethren Church. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1945 and from Lutheran School of Nursing in Fort Wayne in 1948 as a registered nurse. She worked as an RN for more than 40 years, including working as a hospital nurse and for many years as office nurse for Dr. Norman E. Beavers in Berne.

Highly respected for her professionalism and dedication, she was the medical director of Berne Nursing Home, as well as for Jay County Migrant Medical Clinic. She also worked as a private duty nurse, conducted physical exams for insurance companies, provided private medical care consultations, and served as an EMT for Adams County. She was well known for her compassion and caring as a nurse and as an individual. Following the blizzard of 1978, she rode on a snowmobile to care for snowbound patients in their homes. Nursing was her calling and her joy. Norma and her husband raised their family in Berne and retired to Cape Coral in 1992. Norma was an avid reader, enjoyed the Gaithers' gospel music, and loved playing cards with her children and grandchildren.

Among survivors are her husband of 64 years, Noel Agler, of Cape Coral, Fla.; two sons, Timothy (Deborah) Agler of Fort Wayne and Thomas (Ann) Agler of Lawrenceville, Ill.; two daughters, Paula (Thomas) Eckerty of Cape Coral, Fla., and Janelle McKinley of North Fort Myers, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her 99-year-old brother, Otis Baker, of Logansport.
