Thomas Milton Caywood

Was born in Kentucky, January 11, 1838. Died at Kansas City, MO, August 7, 1928, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 26 days. He came to Missouri in 1847, made his home in Scotland county for several years and was well known by everyone as "Uncle Tom". He leaves two daughters. Mrs. J. D. Bowman and Miss Anna Caywood, both of Kansas City, besides a host of other relatives and friends. The body was brought to Downing Saturday night and the funeral was held at Barker church Sunday August 12Th, at 2:30. Interment in the cemetery nearby, Rev. Dan Newland officiating. The pall barers were C. C. Kinney, Fred Kinney, George Cossell, Fred Mason, R. L. Odell, Memphis, MO and L.B. Kinney of Ottumwa.


Thomas Caywood was a barber by trade as stated in a book at the Scotland Co. library. They had three daughters; Julia E., Susan Viola, and Martha. Tom died at the Kansas City General Hospital from hypostataic bronchi pneumonia and a contributory complication was toxic gastroenteritis. The information was given by Mr. J. D. Bowman and the place of burial is Downing, MO, but he and spouse are resting in Barker Church Cemetery.
