The Atchison Weekly Champion, Thursday, 23 February 1899

There are many sad hearts in Atchison today because of the death of Mr. Charles Odlin, who passed away Saturday evening at the Spring Garden home. Deceased has suffered for years with that disease--consumption--which allures as it eats away the life as surely as time brings decay. Mr. Odlin was a railroad man, and while known more in railroad circles, he was well known by citizens, and as he was respected by his immediate associates, he was also loved by all who came in contact with him, either in business or social life. He was a faithful employee, exemplary and companionable. six months ago his health began breaking so marked that he went east to his native Ohio--Dayton, but grew worse and returned to Atchison. He then went to Arizona, but again returned--this time to linger in alluring hope, yet to gradually sink and at last pass away in the midst of his family, consisting of a wife and four bright and promising children. He was a nephew of F. M. Darrah, of the Rock Island. The wife is a daughter of Mrs. Peak of Hawthorne, and a niece of the Misses Peak of the Fourth and Park street boarding house. She is also the sister of Misses Myrtle and Minnie Peak. The funeral took place from the Methodist church this afternoon, under the auspices of the A.O.U.W., of which order deceased was a member and which he carried $2,000 life insurance.
