Services for Mrs. John M. Heiskell, who was prominent in social and Philanthropic circles and a member of one of Shelby County's oldest families, will be at 3 tomorrow afternoon at Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park with Memphis Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Heiskell died about noon yesterday at Baptist Hospital after a lingering illness. She was 47. Her husband, a prominent attorney, is well known for his work as Shelby County attorney general from 1948 to 1955. He is a former chairman of the Shelby County Democratic Executive Committee. Mrs. Heiskell, the former Miss Margaret Winchester, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Winchester Sr. of 218 Crestmere Place. Her father is a former Shelby County attorney. Born in Memphis, she was graduated from Miss Hutchison's School and was a student at Southwestern when Mr., Heiskell married her in January 1937. They moved that year to Jackson, Tenn., where he practiced law, and in 1940, went to Nashville where he served with the state attorney general's office. Following Mr. Heiskell's Navy duty in World War II, they returned to Memphis. Mrs. Heiskell was a past president of Les Passees, helping plan that organization's annual New Year's Eve Cabaret at the Peabody, and was a former chairman of the board of the Les Passees Rehabilitation Center. She also was a member of the Junior League and the Governor's Committee for the Employment of Physically Handicapped, and was active in Brotherhood Week activities of the Memphis Round Table of the National Council of Christians and Jews. Active in Red Cross work during and after World War II, she served as a Gray Lady at Kennedy General (now Veterans) Hospital during the war. Mrs. Heiskell was a member of the Women's Missionary Auxiliary of the Church of the Holy Communion (Episcopal). She lived at 4553 Aldersgate Road after moving with her husband recently from 5321 South Angela Lane. He is a member of the law firm of Montedonico, Boone, Gilliland, Heiskell & Loch. She also leaves two daughters, Mrs. H.L. Carter Jr. of Huntingdon, Tenn., and Ruth McCall Heiskell of the Aldersgate address; a son, Lt. Lamar Heiskell, stationed at Craig Air Force Base at Selma, Ala.; a brother, Lee Winchester Jr. of Germantown, Shelby County attorney, and a sister, Mrs. George Richard Day of Louisville, Ky.
