Carolyn Hoyer (1937-2010)
Carolyn Hoyer died on July 4, 2010 at her home in Willamina, Oregon. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, July 9, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 315 South Main Street, Willamina, OR, The Revs. Dan Hallgrimson and Debra L. Carlson officiating.
Carolyn Nancy Hoyer was born July 30, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Mark Hoyer & Olivia Hjortsvang. She graduated from Hinsdale High School in Hinsdale, Illinois in 1955. She attended Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois and the University of Oregon. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1960, majoring in English and Journalism. Following her college graduation, she taught English and Journalism at Pleasant Hill High School, Pleasant Hill, OR. Beginning in 1974 she worked in the business office at the University of Oregon retiring in 2000 as the supervisor of the Cashiers Office.
Before coming to Willamina, Carolyn was a devoted member of United Lutheran Church in Eugene, Oregon. At the time of her death she was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Willamina, having served on the church council and most recently as the council secretary, and the pastor's legs. Carolyn was a member of the WilSher Toastmasters, the U of O Alumni Association, a dedicated supporter of the Duck Athletic Fund and avid Duck Fan.
Carolyn is survived by her brother Mark and sister-in-law, Elaine, of Blair, NE, niece Vikki Bittner and her husband Brad of Poway, CA, niece Sheri Hoyer of Canton, Illinois, nephews Jeff and Eric of St. Louis, MO, niece Carolyn Crook of Elephants Butte, NM, and numerous friends.
Memorial gifts are designated for the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Sign Fund c/o Macy & Son.
