Timothy was the son of Nebraska/Colorado pioneer Libor Alois Schlessinger and Anna Repka of Usti nad Orilia, Bohemia (now Czech Republic). Timothy came to the United States ahead of the family's emigration to US at age 13 to avoid forced training as a soldier. In the 1850s, the family joined him in Burt County, Nebraska Territory. The entire family eventually moved to Colorado where he had a store in Black Hawk and later in Leadville.
Timothy's siblings were Minnie (Mrs. Fred Meek), Clara Van Buren, Anna McMurray, Lillie Johnson, and Bert Schlessinger.

In 1860 Timothy married Mary Esther Peterson in Burt County Nebraska.
In 1886, Timothy married Augusta L Begrow in Leadville, Colorado
Timothy died in Harrington, Arizona Territory.
