OSAGE, IOWA — Pearl Urbatsch Miles, 86, of Osage, died Friday (Sept. 24, 2004) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Ave., Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Interment will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

On October 25, 1917, Pearl was born to Otto and Babetta (Gutman) Bublitz in Worth County, Iowa. She was baptized on Nov. 18, 1917, and confirmed her faith March 20, 1932, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. Pearl graduated from Grafton Public School on May 18, 1936.

She was united in marriage to Wilbur Urbatsch on Dec. 5, 1937, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. Two sons were born to this union, Gene and James. Pearl and Wilbur farmed north of Grafton for 20 years. During this time, she helped organize and became the first president of the Women Mission Federation. In addition, she was active in the parental functions of the Grafton School.

In 1959, she and her husband purchased and moved to a farm southwest of Osage. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage. Her husband, Wilbur, was killed in a car accident April 17, 1967.

In 1969, she received a degree from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City in the practical nursing profession. Pearl was married to Allison "Jack" Miles on April 23, 1977, and they made their home in Osage. Pearl retired from the nursing profession in 1979, having worked for 22 years at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, making many pleasurable trips to Idaho and attending sporting events, especially watching her grandchildren compete. She will be remembered for her active involvement in our lives.

Pearl is survived by her husband, Allison "Jack" Miles, of the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage; two sons, Gene Urbatsch and his wife, Penny, of Post Falls, Idaho, and James Urbatsch and his wife, Delores, of Osage; one step-daughter, Myrna (Dick) Garrison of Santa Paula, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jamie (Andy) Smith, Jodee (Neil) Robertson, Todd (Amy) Urbatsch, Kathy (Corey) Christiansen and Stacy (Jesse) Hemann; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Wilbur Urbatsch; four sisters, Adeline Kroneman, Irma Gemaehlich, Linda Clausen and Clara Bublitz, and an infant brother, Reinhold Bublitz.
