He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Dr. Beard graduated from the University of Arkansas' Medical School in 1957.Dr. Beard was a member of Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #225.
During his medical career, Dr. Beard served on the Baxter County Medical Society 1974 - 1989, served as Baxter County Health Officer 1975-1991, and delivered 2,000 babies. He received his 50-year medical pin in 2008 and Beard Drive, near the hospital, was named in his honor.
He is survived by four daughters, Renee (Larry) King, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Debbie (Mike) Mathews, Harrison, Arkansas, Robyn (Truman) Sellers, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Cindy Beard, Mountain Grove, Missouri; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene; an infant son, Michael; and a sister, Helen.
Visitation will be from 12 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Kyle officiating. Interment will follow at Mammoth Cemetery, Mammoth, Missouri.
